Curbless Shower Pros and Cons
More and more clients are selecting a curbless shower design. This choice is great both in terms of aesthetics and function as it is designed for an open design concept and so allows for a clean, modern look while performing a very important function. We think the pros outweigh the cons, but we’ve compiled a list so you can judge for yourself.
Pros
Expansive. Even the smallest bathroom can feel larger with a curbless shower design. Walls are eliminated, so you’re utilizing every single inch of space.
Flat Entry. Thousands of injuries happen in the bathroom each year, so if tripping or slipping is a concern, the curbless entry allows users of all abilities to benefit from not having to step up and over to get in the shower.
Cleaner. The open plan design is more maneuverable than the traditional alternative, providing an easier cleaning experience.
Luxurious. Often seen in high end hotels and homes, the curbless entry provides clean lines, and coupled with beautiful tile will add a beautiful upgrade to the look of your bathroom.
Open. No shower curtain is necessary. Beyond eliminating that germy accessory, a curbless entry is typically installed without a door, providing a cleaner environment along with easier access.
Cons
Privacy. Lack of privacy is one of the downsides to a curbless shower entry since most feature glass doors and are open to the room at large. So, if privacy is a priority for you, this may not be your first choice.
Precision. The slope required to make a curbless entry work is very important to ensure water drains properly. Hiring an experienced contractor who knows what they’re doing should be your first step.
Expensive. This type of shower entry can be more expensive than its traditional counterpart.
Chilly. Since most curbless entry showers are open-air and without a door, a cool bathroom will mean you’re cold too. We recommend heated tile, towel warmers and perhaps even a bathroom fireplace if your bathroom is on the cooler side to counteract this concern.
