Reading Room Remodel

A couple we worked with recently had a narrow room in their home that served as a storage spot for household items, games, and other detritus along with bookshelves to hold the avid reader’s favorite editions. While they liked having the space, like many catch-all spaces, it didn’t have sufficient structure to keep it organized and they often found it to be cluttered and disorganized.  As part of a larger home remodel, these clients requested that we come up with a plan for this room to become a beautiful space that would sufficiently store their items while also turning it into a room they could actually use.

The McAdams Remodeling & Design team developed a design that included built-in bookshelves on one side of the room with a lower shelf on the opposite side to provide maximum storage without making the room feel closed in. Previously unused space on the interior wall was repurposed to store games. A cabinet door matching the bookshelves was added for an attractive, but hidden, storage option. Lighter paint, an upgraded window trim design and new baseboards lighten up the room and make it picture perfect.
