Spring Home Maintenance Chores

Spring is here! And even if it doesn’t feel exactly warm outside, the days really are longer and warmer than before. Now is a good time to get a few home chores taken care of before we’re all dedicating the time and energy of our vitamin D deprived bodies to outside activities.

Bust that Dust– dust is rampant this time of year after having your home closed up for the season. Not only does it build up on clutter, but it can wreak havoc on your allergies. Start high and work your way down using microfiber cloths and extendable dusting tools. A Hepa-filter vacuum is also good at getting to the hard-to-reach shelves.

Restock Cleaning Supplies – in our house, old t-shirts become cleaning rags. While that’s good for the environment, it’s also a way to end up with overstuffed cabinets. Take a few minutes, evaluate your cleaning supplies, make a list of needed items and remove what you don’t use anymore.

Disinfect High Touch Surfaces – if you haven’t done so lately, this is your reminder to disinfect high-touch surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and handles. Don’t forget to wipe down your phone, coffee machine, microwave buttons, and even video game controllers.

Take Stock of Your Yard – we’re not even asking you to tackle anything yet – instead just take a walk and make a list of items that need attention. Evaluate what needs trimming, what needs maintenance (mower, tools sharpened), if siding or decking needs repair, and then identify what you can take care of and what requires a specialist.
