A Third Floor Addition Created a Warm Winter Retreat

In a previous newsletter we covered how local Kirkland clients, Sam and Jenny, needed more space for their growing family. Extending the house over the garage was a huge improvement in creating larger bedrooms for the children, while allowing for additional closet space and overall storage. The real coup of their home addition was the third floor the McAdams Remodeling & Design team added to create an all-encompassing primary suite that includes a bedroom, sitting room, walk-in closet, ensuite laundry, primary bathroom and a balcony. With this added space, they were able to give their original primary bedroom to their third child, providing everyone with a room of their own.

The third-floor addition is comprised of 660 sq ft and it sits above their existing main floor, accessed via a dedicated staircase between their girls’ rooms. At the top, you immediately enter a sitting room that features a fireplace and room for a sofa and chair, making it the perfect spot for enjoying a rainy winter day or an evening nightcap.  It also serves as additional workspace for this work-from-home couple if they need it. It will be a favorite this winter when it’s cold and dark outside. Just past the sitting room’s pocket door is a large bedroom with plenty of room for bedroom furniture, including side tables and nightstands, but the real draw is the covered balcony where the couple can now relax on nice evenings.
