Are You Up On Your Lighting Basics?
There are various lighting levels in your home, each providing different benefits. What are they and what do they do? Here is a quick description of each to help you know what to ask for during your next remodel.
Ambient Lighting is the main source of lighting in a room. Overhead fixtures are placed, often in the form of canned lights, which are typically centered in the room. The quantity of ambient lights will depend on the size of your space.
Task Lighting, on the other hand, is meant to light specific areas for common tasks. A desk light or a vanity light over a makeup station are examples of common task lighting solutions.
Accent Lighting is the final type of lighting, focusing mostly on decorative elements. Accent lighting often illuminates paintings, pieces of art and the like. Accent lighting can become a feature in and of itself, such as an attractive chandelier or pendant that is designed and placed to catch the eye.
