Designing Your Custom Laundry Room

It’s easy to overlook this hard-working room until you go to do this chore. Then when laundry day calls, all its shortcomings are glaringly and painfully obvious. If this is your year to design a custom laundry room, here’s what to consider:

  1. Inventory your needs – every home has different laundry needs based on the products you use, the number of people in the household and the space available. Make a list of what you currently have and what is required to make this chore functional for your household.
  2. Create a wish list – now it’s time to improve upon your current situation. If you could design the ultimate laundry room for your home, what would it include? Don’t sell yourself short at the beginning of the home design planning phase, instead create your wish list and then weigh them from most important to least, so that if you find yourself having to choose between two design options, you’ll know which laundry room design is meeting the most of your needs.
  3. Include the basics – we consider these to be a wash basin/sink area for soaking stains and addressing the dirtiest of items in the house. A hanging area, folding area, and enclosed storage solution are often some of the most sought after improvements within a redesigned laundry room. Couple those with durable materials and you have one awesome cleaning machine.

For those that want to couple a functional laundry room with an entry point drop zone (aka a mudroom), you should go through this same process but will have added “basics” that include shoes, jackets and bags. Don’t forget that a laundry room is also a good space to include a dog wash station or workout shower, should your space allow. The options are endless, but we can help you with creating a custom laundry room design that works best for your family.
