Kick These Bad Kitchen Cleaning Habits

No one wants to spend time cleaning, only to find out they’ve not been effective. Here are some tips to keep your cleaning game on point:

Clean Your Cleaners – if you use a sponge, don’t leave it in wet water or with food particles on it all day. Make it a habit to rinse and squeeze it out so that it can dry out between uses. It’s also important to use a disinfectant process regularly – put it in the microwave, the dishwasher or in a full-strength vinegar solution for a bit.

Attend to Your Garbage Disposal. It’s not an appliance that you think requires care, but it too needs occasional attention. To clean your garbage disposal, put a half a cup of baking soda down it and then follow with a cup of white vinegar. Let the combination work for ten or so minutes and then follow it with boiling water. This should help clean out any remaining gunk. Be sure to remind yourself of items that should never go into the disposal to keep yours operating at optimal levels.

Clean Top to Bottom. Always start cleaning at the highest level – such as the cabinets or range hood, before working down to countertops, sinks and floors. If you do the floors first, you run the risk of resettling grime and particles back on them as you work your way up.

Don’t Forget the Frig. Yes, the doors are closed hiding any clutter or mess, however, it’s important to regularly wipe down the shelves and check items for expiration dates. As we all know, items do get pushed to the back and forgotten.
