Powder Room to Daily Use Bathroom Conversion

We all need a little help as we age. Some long-time clients of ours realized that tackling their stairs several times a day to get to and from their second-floor primary suite had become a real challenge for them. They approached McAdams Remodeling & Design with their desire to turn their small main level powder room into a larger and fully functional space, fit for daily use as a primary bathroom. The powder room, combined with a hall closet, allowed us to reconfigure the space to create the larger bathroom without changing the footprint of their home.

The powder room pedestal sink was replaced with a gray vanity cabinet and undermount sink. A beautiful Cambria Ironbridge countertop and backsplash updated the space with a contemporary design. Additional storage was gained with a matching over toilet cabinet for toiletries.  Using the repurposed space from the adjacent closet, a curbless walk-in shower with gorgeous Alabastro Bianco wall tile was added to the bathroom. A pony wall provides separation between the shower and toilet/vanity area. The couple chose a Beasley valve handle for the shower, which is easy to use for those with limited strength and dexterity. While our team was there the couple also decided to move the main level laundry machines to the garage in order to repurpose that space for coats and storage of other household items. While this was not a typical McAdams Remodeling & Design project, we loved helping these long-time clients retain their independence and age in place.
