Quick January Home Busters

January seems to be bringing cold but bright weather, a nice change of pace for those of us Native PNWers. So, while we’re getting a break from the typical season, here are a few things you should be focusing on this month:

  • Declutter – Once you’ve gotten the holiday décor put away, it can feel like a whole new house. Now is a good time to evaluate your rooms, one by one, to determine what you might not need anymore. Whether you’re a fan of Kon Mari or prefer a less intense version of decluttering, as you’re putting your rooms back to their pre-holiday style, take the time to donate what doesn’t bring you joy.
  • Dream Green – If you’re someone who really struggles in the winter months, a good escape is thinking ahead to the growing season. Get a start on your flower and garden planning – take stock of what you have, order seeds, and locate your preferred composter. Indoor plant purchases can get you through until you can get your hands in the dirt outside while also improving your indoor air quality.
  • Start Planning – This is a month of reflection, time to plan for remodels, trips, and brainstorming for the year ahead. Enjoy the quiet the season brings by sitting down and intentionally setting goals for the year. If a remodel is on your horizon for later in the year, now is the time to initiate contact with us to get on our schedule.
  • Wipe it Down – After the madness of the holiday season, make it a point to give everything a good wipe down this month. Focus on switches, handles and railings since everyone who’s entered your home has likely touched one – or all – of these objects. And don’t forget about the handles on your cabinets, refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, and microwave as these are all high-use items.
  • Wash Blankets – Instead of turning up the heat, many of us reach for blankets during the colder months. To lessen the spread of germs, wash these items regularly, especially after having guests.
  • Refresh the Walls – This month is a good time to tackle small interior paint jobs you’ve been considering. Take advantage of the lull to upgrade the powder room paint or redo a child’s room while your schedule is lighter.
