Quick Tasks to Tackle in June
June kicked off with some warm and wild weather. While we’re waiting for some consistency in temperature each day, here are a few June home maintenance tips to work on this month.
Chimney
June is a good month to have your chimney serviced as you’re probably done using it for the season and there’s time on your favorite chimney sweeps calendar to check for issues. There is plenty of time for repair before the high-use season.
Deck and Patio
Patio season is almost here! Now is the time to get any last minute issues handled. Look for worn boards on the deck or any area where structural integrity is compromised and get the deck stained before the weather is consistently warmer. If you notice cracks or raised areas of your patio, consider having a professional in to repair it before the issue becomes a liability with guests.
Indoor & Outdoor Fans
Fans are an inexpensive way to keep your home cool. Given that most of us haven’t been using our fans for a bit, ensure you wipe them down with a microfiber rag to eliminate dust being blown around that has collected over time. Then, be sure the blades are turning counterclockwise, creating a downdraft and moving air around making it feel cooler this time of year.
Flammables
Most households have old paint and old fuel sitting around. This is your reminder to ensure that flammable items are stored properly where increased temperatures aren’t a problem. If contained in an outbuilding that changes temperature dramatically, like a metal shed, you should consider moving them to a more temperature-controlled environment for optimal safety.
Home Security
While home safety is a consideration all year round, summer is a common time for break-ins. Open windows and traveling homeowners are an invite to those looking to make a quick buck. This is a good opportunity to check that your windows are secure, locks and deadbolts are solid and any smart home technology devices are operating properly.
