Spring Cleaning Kick Off!
It’s spring cleaning time! Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed, just get started on these ten chores.
- Clean out your closet – it’s time to re-evaluate items you didn’t wear this year and donate what doesn’t fit or you don’t want anymore. Then pack remaining items that made the cut into bins for next year. Bring out your favorite spring and summer items for the coming warmer weather and make note of any gaps in your wardrobe or of items that need to be replaced.
- Update your entryway – a change-up in the entry can make a surprising difference in the feel of your home. A new rug, fresh paint, or even a swap in décor offers an easy refresh with little investment.
- Under furniture cleaning – at least one time a year commit to moving large furniture, like sofas or beds, to vacuum and clean under them. Over time, dust will build up there and can add to seasonal allergies.
- Refresh your rugs – we regularly clean bathrooms but often overlook one of the most used items – the rugs. Give them a good shake outside and throw them in the washing machine so that your bathroom is ready for a new season.
- Remove scuffs with a magic eraser – wall scuffs happen throughout the year. Spring cleaning is a good opportunity to see if a magic eraser will remove them or if a larger paint project is needed.
- Wipe window tracks – a good window washer will also clean the window tracks, but if you’ve yet to schedule that, consider giving your window tracks a good wipe down. Soap, water and a sponge should do the trick!
- Disinfect high touch points – light switches, outlets, faucets, door handles and appliance buttons get touched over and over in the average household. This is a good month to methodically wipe down these spots to kick off the season with less germs.
- Clean the cutlery drawer – it’s amazing how dirty this high-use drawer can get. Pull everything out and clean any cutlery that looks questionable. The organizers should get a good wipe down with soap and water and the drawer itself should be vacuumed out and wiped as necessary. Make sure everything is completely dry before replacing the items.
- Clean the refrigerator – a change in season offers an opportunity to clean out the refrigerator. Typically, the seasonal change also includes a shift in our meal planning – fewer heavy meals and more grilling! If you don’t have time all at once for this chore, tackle it one shelf at a time prior to a big grocery shopping trip so that you can start fresh.
- Clean the oven – after the winter and holiday season, we’ve made it through the heavy-use oven time. Clean out your oven using Real Simple’s tips to ensure this appliance looks fresh and ready to bake.
