June Home Maintenance List

The rain has been relentless this year, but the calendar tells us we’re close to that revered Seattle summer! Before you don your Berkinstocks this season, check to be sure you’ve dusted everything including the ceiling fan. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, dusting the ceiling fan (and everything else) can help keep dust and pollen to a minimum instead of spreading it throughout your home. Replacing the filter in your air conditioner will also keep unwanted dust particles from spreading.  Doing a test run of the air conditioner before that first hot day is recommended to ensure your system is running well. Another good idea for this time of year is to clean out your clothes dryer vent pipe since you won’t have to worry about getting rained on while you’re doing it!

While you may be feeling like the sun will never come out for more than a few days at a time, it is a good time to have your lawn and garden sprinklers serviced to ensure they’re in good working order for that promised sunny summer. It’s also smart to take stock of what flammables might be in and around your home that are sensitive to heat.  Either dispose of them or ensure the location where they’re being stored will be safe when warm weather arrives. Finally, ensure your window and door screens are in good working order and do an overall security check-up since break-ins are often higher during the summer months. Check these items off your June home maintenance checklist and you can relax this summer in comfort!
